With music styles such as Indie, folk and rock influenced by the rock ‘n’ roll laid-back style of the ‘50’s with direct references to the old Athenian serenades are the main characteristics of Polkar, the music band of actor George Papageorgiou. In Slavic “polkar” means “drunk dancer who sings off-key/drunk off-key dancer”. During their live performances they incorporate into their music theatrical elements and combined with audience interactivity they leisurely pass through the various music styles that interest and define/characterize them.

George Papageorgiou began writing his first songs with a ukulele in his apartment in Pagrati, Athens, two years ago. In the summer of 2013 he met in Thessaloniki with fellow musicians John Kiratsos and Lazarus Pliampa and thus, Polkar were born, presenting for the first time to the city’s audience their indie-folk style. Today, the members of Polkar are George Papageorgiou (vocals, ukulele, charango), John Kiratsos (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Lazarus Pliampas (drums, percussion), George Avramidis (trumpet) and Michael Sionas (upright bass).
