Creating nests of hope

Politics & Society

Maria Konti-Galinou talks about her personal story of overcoming and embracing a fear and using it as a means to create. During her childhood years she was afraid of the poor and homeless people she saw in the streets, yet she felt compassionate for as heroes in her childhood books. Today, Maria is the founder of The Salvation Army branch in Greece, working with homeless people, families in need, prisoners and victims of human trafficking. She talks about the courage it takes to create nests of hope for people in need and to give courage in rebuilding their lives; “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.
